Mansard & Side Return Extensions

Clapton, Hackney

This project, for a returning client, is located in Clapton, Hackney. The house was a three bedroom Victorian mid-terrace, in need of complete refurbishment. The clients wanted to create a side return and mansard extension to; increase the living space, add an additional bedroom and upgrade all of the interiors.

Studio Wolsey proposed a side return extension, to open up the back of the house and create an open plan kitchen and dining space, which opens out to the garden. The glazed roof to the side return extension, allows lots of natural light to flood the space and affords views of the sky. The rest of the ground floor was also reorganised, to create a living room, WC and spacious pantry off the kitchen.

At first floor, the three existing bedrooms and bathroom were completely refurbished.

A new mansard roof extension was added to the top of the house, creating a new master suite. The master bedroom has a dressing area and its own bathroom. Skylights and a large rear dormer window bring lots of light into the spaces.

The whole house underwent a complete refurbishment, with new plumbing, electrics, a new kitchen and three new bathrooms.
